7 weeks of focused prayer from Passover to Shavuot
Beginning sundown, April 23
Every year, from Passover to Shavuot, UMJC congregations and supporters join in seven weeks of prayer through the biblical period of counting the Omer (Leviticus 23:15-16).
The prayer focus this year is “From Strength to Strength”—in our personal lives, our congregations, and within the entire Messianic Jewish community.
“From Strength to Strength,” is based on Psalm 84, which is a song of the pilgrims going up to worship at the holy Temple. As they journey to Zion, they increase in strength—strength in their desire to draw near to God and strength in their sense of His goodness and power. This psalm will guide us on our journey from the resurrection of Messiah during Passover, which marks the beginning of our counting the weeks, to the outpouring of the Spirit on Shavuot fifty days later. So let’s begin!
Week Four. May 14–20
Strengthen us to appear before you.
This is the midpoint week: halfway to Shavuot!
They go from strength to strength—
every one of them appears before God in Zion. Psalm 84:8 TLV
Every festival is a miqra kodesh, a holy gathering in the presence of the God of Israel. As our journey of prayer takes us from the holy gathering of Passover to the holy gathering of Shavuot, we ask for the strength to appear before God in a way that is worthy of Him.
Father, we are distracted by many things in our world. Help us to be clear and strong in our focus on the one thing that is needful—being in your presence (Luke 10:42). Help us all—as individuals, families, and a whole community—get ready to appear before You wholeheartedly and in the strength of your Spirit.
