What To Expect…

Expect to be Welcomed

Simchat Yisrael is a diverse community made up of both Jewish and non-Jewish believers in Messiah Yeshua. We welcome anyone who is interested in Yeshua, Messianic Judaism, or exploring the Jewish roots of their faith.

Expect to Worship

Our Shabbat morning worship service is a fusion of traditional Jewish prayer and modern musical expression. Our prayer book is printed in both Hebrew and English with English transliteration. The prayer service is interspersed with songs and music and we encourage you to sing along, clap, join our dance circle and generally participate to the extent that you feel comfortable.

Jewish worship services can be very athletic, filled with frequent directions to stand for particular prayers and sit for others. Take your cue from the other worshippers or the rabbi’s instructions.

Expect a Jewish Experience

Dress codes at various synagogues vary but our community typically ranges from casual dress to semi-formal depending on your preferences. Shabbat services are a face-to face meeting with God and we try to dress accordingly.

Gentleman will be asked to wear a Kippah (Yarmulke) upon entering the synagogue. Wearing a kippah is not a symbol of religious identification but is rather an act of respect to God and the sacredness of the worship space.

Jewish men and women traditionally wear a tallit or prayer shawl. Because the braided fringes at the four corners of the tallit remind its wearer to observe the commandments of Judaism, wearing a tallit is a symbol of religious identification reserved for Jews. Tallit are available in the sanctuary, but you may decline to wear it if you are not Jewish or are uncomfortable wearing such a garment.

Expect a Family

Simchat Yisrael is above all else, a family that loves God, each other, the larger Jewish community, and the non-Jewish worlds within which we live. We seek to grow and learn together in the pursuit of a meaningful life inspired by Jewish tradition and enriched by faith in Messiah Yeshua.

Temple is more than just a prayer service, and so to that end we offer…
