Rabbi Dr. Joshua Brumbach

SENIOR RABBI

Rabbi Joshua's passion is often described as "infectious," "contagious," and "deeply inspiring." In addition to serving as our Senior Rabbi, he is also Associate Professor of Jewish Studies at Messianic Jewish Theological Institute (MJTI) and adjunct faculty at The King's University

Dr. Brumbach is the author of numerous articles, two biblical commentaries, John’s Three Letters: On Hope, Love, and Covenant Fidelity (2019) and Jude: On Faith and the Destructive Influence of Heresy (2014), and a forthcoming book to be published by Fortress Press (Fall 2027) based on his doctoral dissertation, tentatively titled Confronting God: Theological Protest in the Midrash on Psalms.

He holds a DHL in rabbinic literature from the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership, a MA in rabbinic writings from MJTI, and a BA in Jewish Studies and Biblical Studies from UCLA. He is an accredited Jewish educator, has studied in various Jewish institutions, including an Orthodox yeshiva in Europe, and is ordained by the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations and the Messianic Jewish Rabbinical Council.

Rabbi Joshua is the recent past-President of the Messianic Jewish Rabbinical Council and continues to serve on its Executive Committee, and on the Credentials and Theology Committees of the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations. Prior to his appointment at Simchat Yisrael, he served congregations in California and Maryland. 

He is an avid mountain biker, loves the outdoors, and he and his wife have two sons.

Rabbi Tony Eaton ז”ל

RABBI EMERITUS

It is with great sadness that we share that our Emeritus Rabbi, Anthony “T0ny” Eaton passed away peacefully at his home on May 5, 2026.

Rabbi Tony served as the rabbi of our congregation for 30 years, from 1991 until in 2021.

Following his retirement and until his death, Rabbi Tony remained active in the congregation serving as Rabbi Emeritus and as an Elder, and served on the faculty of the New School for Jewish Studies.

As a respected leader within the broader Messianic Jewish movement, he served on the Executive Committee of the UMJC (as Treasurer), as UMJC Northeast Regional Director, and as a mentor and guide as the founder and longtime Chair of the UMJC’s K20 Committee (now called Kadimah). He was also a founding-member and past President of the Messianic Jewish Rabbinical Council, and until 2023, served for many years as its Executive Director.

Rabbi Eaton was a graduate of the UMJC Yeshiva Institute, and received rabbinical ordination from the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations (UMJC) and the Messianic Jewish Rabbinical Council (MJRC).

He is survived by his wife, Merryl, his three adult children, and grandchildren.
